Why Foundations?

Most health education happens through books, podcasts, and social media.

Foundations was created from a different belief.

Some of the most meaningful learning happens when families gather together — in conversation, in nature, and in community.

Through inspiring talks, immersive experiences, and children's outdoor adventures, Foundations brings together modern science and the timeless conditions humans have always needed to thrive.

Not another feed to scroll or podcast to queue up. An actual gathering — in person, together, for one full day.

Meet the Founder

Hello, I'm Michelle.

I'm a physician, wife, and mom to two energetic little boys. Over the past two decades my career has taken me through conventional medicine, functional medicine, environmental medicine, and, more recently, applied quantum biology.

How do we help children build such strong foundations that they have the best possible chance of never needing to recover in the first place?

Health has never been more fascinating. It's also never been more confusing.

Every day brings another study, another opinion, another expert. It's easy to feel like you need to understand everything before you can make good decisions for your family.

Foundations was created to slow the conversation down — to create space for thoughtful questions, meaningful experiences, and genuine connection. Health isn't built through a single breakthrough. It's shaped by the conditions we create every day, the people we spend time with, the rhythms we live by, and the environments we call home.

This September, 30 families will gather at one of Kamloops' most beautiful outdoor settings — not to watch a livestream or scroll a feed, but to explore those ideas together, in person.

Come curious. We'll take it from there.

The Framework

Four foundations. One healthy family.

Everything at Foundations grows from four simple ideas that quietly shape almost every aspect of our health.

Nourish

Food, water, minerals, sunlight, and the information they carry.

Rhythm

Light, sleep, seasons, and the natural patterns that shape our biology.

Connect

Relationships, belonging, play, and community.

Protect

Creating environments that help families thrive, and resilience to balance out what you can't control.

More Than a Conference

Health is understood best when it's experienced.

Children have always known this. They learn by climbing, building, exploring, asking questions, and trying things for themselves. Perhaps adults haven't changed all that much.

Throughout the day you'll move between inspiring talks, discovery stations, conversations, demonstrations, and shared meals. Children will be immersed in their own parallel experience, returning with muddy feet, curious minds, and stories of their own.

None of this happens through a screen. It happens because thirty families are actually standing in the same field, at the same time, together.

"Our hope is simple: that families leave seeing health differently than when they arrived."
The Thread Running Through the Day

Eight discoveries.

Over nearly two decades in medicine, some of the biggest shifts in our thinking came from seeing familiar things differently. These have become the thread running through Foundations.

That's the conversation I wish I'd been invited into twenty years ago.

Our Children's Experience Partner

Created in partnership with Adventuring Into Life.

Kids don't need childcare. They deserve an experience of their own.

One of the first decisions we made was that children deserved more than a supervised holding area. Together with Adventuring Into Life and Sprouting Knowledge, we've built a program kids can move through independently — exploring, building, and asking questions at their own pace, without a parent guiding every step.

They're not just playing. They're learning the same four foundations their parents are — through movement, adventure, and hands-on experience instead of a talk. Different experience. Same foundations.

The Venue

Why Privato?

September is one of my favourite times of year in Kamloops. The intensity of summer begins to soften. The vineyards are heavy with fruit, the orchards are full, and there's that unmistakable feeling that the seasons are beginning to change.

Privato has been part of our family's story for many years — long before Foundations existed, it was where we celebrated weddings, holidays, and countless ordinary afternoons that somehow became lasting memories.

Health isn't something that exists apart from life. It lives within it.

Community

Healthy families don't grow in isolation.

Many parents aren't just looking for information. They're looking for community — other families who care about raising healthy, capable children, who value time outdoors, and who find the simple things make life feel rich.

That's the whole reason this is a gathering and not a livestream. Community isn't built through a screen — it's built by actually showing up, in the same place, on the same day.

Maybe that's how villages have always been built. One conversation at a time.

The First 30 Families

Perhaps you're one of them.

We're intentionally beginning with just 30 Founding Families, so this stays what it's meant to be — an actual gathering, not a crowd. Conversations stay unhurried, children have space to explore, and by the end of the day familiar faces already feel like friends.

The families who join us this September will help shape what Foundations becomes in the years ahead.
